Ford Reinvents the Fluid Wheel: Check Out This New Patent

Story by Javier Cappiello • 1 min read

Ford's patent introduces a system that not only identifies the specific fluid requirements of a vehicle, but also oversees the filling process to prevent common errors. From gasoline to oil and other essential fluids, this system is designed to adapt to the specific needs of each model.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this technology is its ability to prevent problematic situations, like using diesel fuel in an internal combustion engine designed for gasoline, or choosing the wrong oil based on viscosity. According to Ford, the system could automatically determine which fluid is compatible with a particular vehicle, activate the appropriate dispenser, and monitor the entire process accurately and safely.

Innovation Leading the Way

This patent is not an isolated case in Ford's innovation labs. In recent months, the company has explored various ideas related to fluid storage and management, including thermal casings to heat or cool liquids, and heated fuel tanks. However, this new fluid communication and capacity system could have a more immediate and visible impact for drivers, simplifying complex tasks and reducing risks.

If this technology makes it to future Ford models, we could be looking at a significant shift in how drivers interact with their vehicles, bringing us closer to a future where human errors are a thing of the past. Could this be the first step towards a new era of smarter and more autonomous vehicles? Only time will tell.
